Grand Touring , in short GT (from the Italian word Gran Turismo) racing is the most common form of sports car racing, and is found all over the world, in both international and national series.

Grand Touring Omologato, abbreviated GTO is a form of a vehicle which is approved to race in a certain series e.g Mitsubishi GTO, Ferrari 250 GTO etc

FIA (the World governing Body) divides GT cars into four categories called;

1. GT1 (formerly GT), 
2. GT2 (formerly N-GT), 
3. GT3 (recently introduced) 
4. GT4. 

We will stick with the first two,
GT1 - In this category the exterior of the car (looks) resemble a production, or if you like a showroom version but the internal fittings differ greatly

GT2 - Normal production cars with afew modifications for racing. The most common on kenyan roads are the Subaru WRX, and Mistubishi EVO (we shall discuss this two in depth in a different post! :)
